UPS deploys 167 "green" trucksUnited Parcel Service Inc. has deployed 167 compressed natural gas delivery trucks in California, Texas and Georgia, including 30 in Sacramento, the Atlanta-based company recently announced. Atlanta will get the most trucks, with 42, but California leads the way with 100, including 41 in Fresno, 14 in Los Angeles, 10 in San Ramon and five in Ontario. They join more than 800 CNG vehicles already in use by UPS in the United States. Previous CNG vehicles in UPS’s fleet were converted from gasoline and diesel vehicles in the 1980s to run on alternative fuels. The new vehicles are originally manufactured to use alternative fuels.
The trucks are expected to reduce emissions by 20 percent and improve fuel economy by 10 percent compared to the cleanest diesel engines currently available.
