Keep your hands off your face to help prevent the flu

By: Allison

Little habits we all have - touching eyes, putting finger to nose, biting nails - are the main way a virus gets into your system, via the oral and respiratory nasal route. According to WebMD, avoid the urge and break yourself (and those around you) to decrease your chances of getting sick this season.

Breaking these habits isn’t easy, WebMD says. But there are things you can do to remind yourself to stop being so touchy.

Try sticky notes on your computer, or tape a note to your coffee mug, mirror at home, truck/car dashboard, etc., that says “Note to self: PREVENT FLU.”

And don’t forget to remind your family not to touch their eyes, nose or mouth, which can be especially difficult for kids to do, WebMD says.  To make the message effective, tell your kids that it’s now cold and flu season, and eyes and nose are how germs get into the body. Remind them that they need to wash their hands as well.

Some people, however, believe a little sickness can be healthy in the long run, and that it builds up in your immune system, WebMD says.
