E-cards may contain viruses

Before you click on that e-card in your inbox, keep reading.
According to ABC News, millions of e-mails disguised as e-cards, but actually containing a computer virus believed to be from Russia, are being sent out on various holidays throughout the year.
Once you click on the e-card, the virus immediately, but secretly, infiltrates your computer.  The computer is then controlled by the people who sent the virus, allowing them to launch commands to send more spam e-mails or other criminal activity such as identity theft, ABC says.
Even though the virus has been around for years, experts say spammers will take advantage of holidays hoping people will be more likely to open e-cards.
“This virus always occurs around the holidays because people are more likely to click on a link that says they’ve received an e-card,” said Korin Munsterman, the director of the Office of Technology at American University.
This might be a good time to make a visit to greeting card store and wish that special someone in your life a happy holiday the old fashioned way: in person!
