
CONVOY AGAINST CANCER KEEPS ON TRUCKIN'By: Phil HockingPRINCETON, ILLINOIS (March 28, 2008) The 6th Annual “Convoy Against Cancer” BIG Truck Show rolls back into town on Saturday, May 3, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Claude Bailey Parkway, in Princeton, Illinois. All makes and models of new and restored, BIG trucks will be on display including truck cranes, fire trucks, wreckers, and redi-mix trucks from Peoria, Bloomington, Dixon, Princeton, Peru, and all over the North Central Illinois area. The event, the brainchild of Phil Hocking, is intended to offer vehicle owners and enthusiasts something different while benefiting a good cause-the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Bureau County. “As far as I know this is one of the only shows of this kind in Illinois. It’s an event that gives people a new look at some hardworking vehicles that we see everyday. We’ll have all makes and models of antique and new big trucks as well as pickup trucks and some special show trucks,” according to Hocking. All entrants will receive a dash plaque donated by Graphic Electronics of Spring Valley. The truck registration fee is a donation to the American Cancer Society. This year’s show will be held just west of the Ace Hardware Distribution Center on Claude Bailey Parkway in Princeton. Hocking said that this will give both the entrants and visitors more room to enjoy the show. Local businesses have donated hundreds of door prize and silent auction items ranging from toys to cases of oil. Of special interest this year is a big a selection of autographed gear donated by Chrome Shop Mafia and Drive18Wheeler.com. In addition to lots of chrome and stacks, there will be entertainment for the whole family with music by D. J. Gary Swanson, food, door prizes, a 50/50 drawing, children’s games and face painting, and the chance to have a photo taken sitting on a “big rig.” Admission to the show is free to the public. Hocking said, “Last year we raised over $3,200.00 and had 66 entries. This year we’re hoping for 75-100 trucks. It’ll be a great show for a great cause. We’ll see you there.”
