AT&T rumored to be offering subsidy for 3G iPhone

AT&T, the exclusive carrier for Apple’s iPhone, will reportedly sell the upcoming 3G version of the popular device for $199, a $200 discount on original pricing, according to one report. The much-rumored 3G upgrade will appear in AT&T stores this summer, the anniversary of the iPhone’s U.S. launch.
Fortune, citing one anonymous source, says Apple will sell 8-gigabyte and 16-gigabyte iPhone versions for $399 and $499, according to AHN.
The AT&T decision comes as a number of carriers in Europe cut prices for the iPhone in preparation for the 3G version.
